On Swift Horses
On Swift Horses is a slow-burning post-war drama of illicit desire set against a sun-drenched 1950s backdrop. While performances, particularly Daisy Edgar-Jones and Jacob Elordi’s, are good, the pacing is slow in spots, and the emotional payoff is subtle. Beautifully shot, the film is visually pleasing, with stunning cinematography capturing intimacy and isolation. But the story struggles to gather momentum, too often meandering through its more subdued moments. There are moments of brilliance, like character tension, but nothing that ever allows it to gallop truly. It is worth watching on Swift Horses when it drops on a streaming service. It’s around the middle. Overall, I gave this a 5.4 out of 10.
