π₯ Reel Review: Singing in My Sleep

Singing in My Sleep is a soft, intimate tale of a teenage girl attempting to discover who she is while growing in the shadow of her late fatherβa beloved musician. She sings songs, plays the guitar, and attempts to come to terms with the pressure surrounding her, particularly as the anniversary of his most well-known album approaches.
There’s no grand drama here. It’s little, truthful momentsβbedroom recordings and late-night uncertainty. Jessica Belkin is terrific in the lead. She doesn’t overdo it. She feels genuine. Malin Akerman brings warmth to her supporting role as a mom, and the rest of the cast lends the film a lived-in quality.
It’s not a flashy film, but it doesn’t need to be. It understands what it’s about. Mitten’s Verdict: A low-key but sincere movie about creating music, discovering your voice, and learning to quit following someone else’s journey. Rated: 6 out of 10.
