πŸŽ₯ Reel Review: Singing in My Sleep

Singing in My Sleep is a soft, intimate tale of a teenage girl attempting to discover who she is while growing in the shadow of her late fatherβ€”a beloved musician. She sings songs, plays the guitar, and attempts to come to terms with the pressure surrounding her, particularly as the anniversary of his most well-known album approaches.

There’s no grand drama here. It’s little, truthful momentsβ€”bedroom recordings and late-night uncertainty. Jessica Belkin is terrific in the lead. She doesn’t overdo it. She feels genuine. Malin Akerman brings warmth to her supporting role as a mom, and the rest of the cast lends the film a lived-in quality.

It’s not a flashy film, but it doesn’t need to be. It understands what it’s about. Mitten’s Verdict: A low-key but sincere movie about creating music, discovering your voice, and learning to quit following someone else’s journey. Rated: 6 out of 10.
