🎬 Reel Review: Heads of State

Heads of State is precisely what it looks like: a glossy, globe-trotting action comedy powered by two prominent personalities. Idris Elba brings the grit, John Cena brings the goofy, and the movie gets plenty of mileage out of their odd-couple dynamic.
The plot moves fast—world leaders are targeted, Elba and Cena are forced to team up, and bullets start flying. Director Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry and Nobody) keeps things stylish and kinetic, with tight set pieces and crisp pacing. The highlight? A bruising airplane showdown that feels ripped from a ‘90s blockbuster in the best way.
It’s not profound or game-changing, but it’s not trying to be. Cena leans into the comedy without going over the top, and Elba plays the straight man with solid timing. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is cool but underutilized, and the script leaves behind character beats in favor of quick one-liners and explosions.
Still, it works more often than not. The charm is there. The action delivers. And it never overstays its welcome.
Mitten’s Verdict: A solid popcorn flick with just enough punch to keep you entertained. Rated: 7/10
