πŸŽ₯ Reel Review: Pretty Thing (2025)

Pretty Thing tries to walk the line between erotic thriller and psychological drama but ends up being more restrained than risquΓ©. Alicia Silverstone gives a good performance as Sophie, a high-ranking executive who becomes embroiled in a steamy relationship with a good-looking bartender (Karl Glusman). The chemistry between them works at first, but after things take a dark turn, the movie doesn’t quite live up to the menace it threatens.

Glusman’s transition from attentive to obsessive is too subtle to be unnerving, and the tension never quite buildsβ€”it just meanders. The aesthetic is glossy, but the narrative plays it too safe. You can sense what it’s going for, but it never gets deep enough to deliver an emotional blow.

It’s a breeze to watch but easier to forget.

Mitten’s Indie Verdict: Pretty Thing flirts with darkness but backs away before it gets interesting. Rated: 4.9 out of 10.
